# Why standard scoring changes the quarterback board

Quarterback rankings copied from a PPR sheet are usually wrong before the draft even starts. Standard scoring changes the value of passing volume, rushing, turnovers, and touchdown environment, and it changes how much a manager should pay for the position.

## Start with the scoring equation

Passing yards create a floor, but rushing yards and rushing touchdowns often create separation. Passing touchdowns matter more in standard formats because there is no reception volume to smooth out a mediocre passing day. Interceptions and sacks matter when the league’s settings include them, so the quarterback’s full scoring environment matters more than raw yardage.

## Three questions for every quarterback

1. **Where do the rushing points come from?** Designed runs, scrambles, goal-line packages, and sneaks are different kinds of rushing value, but all of them can create a weekly edge.
2. **Is the passing volume stable?** A quarterback who needs an extreme efficiency season to reach his projection is a different auction asset from one who throws at a predictable rate.
3. **What happens when the game script turns?** Some offenses stay aggressive with a lead. Others hand the ball off and shrink the quarterback’s ceiling.

## Auction implication

Do not pay for the previous season’s passing total without checking how it was built. In a standard league, an expensive pocket passer needs either elite touchdown conversion or extraordinary volume to justify a premium. A cheaper quarterback with a stable rushing role can be the better roster construction play, especially if the room overpays for name recognition.

The best draft board has a quarterback tier, a rushing-upside tier, and a late replacement tier. It does not have one giant list that ignores how the league actually scores points.
